We hold it oh so closely
Every minute has a place
A calendar defines us
And lines form on our face

Pushing towards the future
Marching to the plan
Striving for perfection
In everything we can

But then, in an instant
A crack will just appear
Revealing the illusion
And everything is clear

All of it just changes
The world just falls away
And the morning sun invites you
To discover a new way

About the Poem The World Just Falls Away

The poem “The World Just Falls Away” is about our busy, well-planned lives. We live by our calendar, and we have a plan. We fill all the squares. We make sacrifices. And we do everything right. Sound familiar? Sooner or later, something happens that doesn’t fit the plan. Most are negative, and you can fill in the blank for yourself. Regardless of what it is, this is a defining moment. It’s not that what you were working towards was wrong. You’ve just reached the end of that dream. This can be heartbreaking, confusing, or liberating.

I read somewhere recently that emotions only last about 90 seconds. That’s about the time for the chemical reaction in our brains to complete. Everything after that is us replaying the memory of that event. We can stay sad for a really long time if we want to. Or we can find something happier on the playlist. You may not know what comes next when your world changes. You probably can’t glue the pieces back together. And that’s ok. Something new awaits you. Just let the world fall away and see what tomorrow brings.

Poetry Books

Here are some of the books that are available from Robert Longley. I would recommend the Sacred Poem journals. Reading my earlier books (especially the ones for Military, Police and Firefighter’s families) cover to cover can be overwhelming. The poetry journals are designed to give you one poem per day while you journal about what might be going on in your life. There are specific journals for grief, success, and more.

Inspirational Poetry Products

While I do signed poetry prints that are 11×14, that isn’t the size or product that all people want. Some just want a sympathy card, others may want a large canvas print, or maybe a coffee cup. There are limits to what I can customize with the options available so some products just don’t work. Please just ignore them, I know that that format doesn’t work. If you are looking for something specific, or would like to make something specific just let me know. I’m open to just about anything.
