The highest form of action
The hardest of the hard
An option not considered
Though it’s there within the cards
It goes beyond forgiveness
A step towards lasting change
A breaking of a cycle
To make the world less strange
A risk you might be cheated
In a deal that’s based on trust
That could vanish in an instant
And all could turn to dust
Mercy with no promise
May not bring sun to rain
But it may move us one step forward
And let us start again
About the Poem Mercy with no Promise
The poem Mercy with no Promise is about showing kindness and forgiveness to someone who based on actions, cultural norms, or other factors may not seem to deserve it. Having been in Israel and Palestine, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, these are just a few of the places where generational hate is alive and well. It doesn’t matter who started the fight, but an eye for an eye has taken on a life of its own.
It’s not an easy cycle to break. And it doesn’t just have to be between countries. What about divorced couples or crime victims and their offenders. Most of us have seen that first hand. Smaller scale, but equally hard. How do you let go of the pain? I don’t know that there is an instruction manual. It does require stepping back from the situation and taking a broader view. Do I want to keep living my life this way? Do I want this for my grandchildren? (Insert your question here)
There’s always a risk that granting someone mercy may not serve you well. But there’s also the possibility that your actions pave the way for lasting change.
Poetry Books
Here are some of the books that are available from Robert Longley. I would recommend the Sacred Poem journals. Reading my earlier books (especially the ones for Military, Police and Firefighter’s families) cover to cover can be overwhelming. The poetry journals are designed to give you one poem per day while you journal about what might be going on in your life. There are specific journals for grief, success, and more.

Inspirational Poetry Products
While I do signed poetry prints that are 11×14, that isn’t the size or product that all people want. Some just want a sympathy card, others may want a large canvas print, or maybe a coffee cup. There are limits to what I can customize with the options available so some products just don’t work. Please just ignore them, I know that that format doesn’t work. If you are looking for something specific, or would like to make something specific just let me know. I’m open to just about anything.
