We think in terms of person
And try to give it form
Most think in terms like father
At least that is the norm

But what is it really
Are there many in its glow
Or is it just the realm of secrets
We all do wish to know

Oh so many questions
We do not need to ask
It isn’t why we came here
It’s not part of our task

Just know the light is out there
But that’s not where it begins
Your eyes need not be open
To see what lies within

About the poem The Light That Guides Us

The poem The Light That Guides Us is about what we connect to in the universe. God is the obvious answer for most people, but how they view it is different for everyone. It doesn’t have to be what the structured institutions tell us. It’s always a construct so don’t assume what is right for you is right for others, and vice versa. Try to think in terms of music. What speaks to you? Is is jazz, classical, pop, rock, folk, country, etc.? The notes are the same, just in different combinations and orders. They just reach us in different ways.

Most of us start out being told what our place is in the universe, and the hierarchy that goes along with it. Chances are it was right for whoever came up with it first, but we can’t assume that translates for everyone. You might as well mandate that all music be Polka. Not everyone feels comfortable exploring beyond what they have been told to believe. For those that do, it can be a scary process. It can also be liberating and educational. And in the end, you generally don’t end up far from where you started. You just see it in a different way.

Poetry Books

Here are some of the books that are available from Robert Longley. I would recommend the Sacred Poem journals. Reading my earlier books (especially the ones for Military, Police and Firefighter’s families) cover to cover can be overwhelming. The poetry journals are designed to give you one poem per day while you journal about what might be going on in your life. There are specific journals for grief, success, and more.

Inspirational Poetry Products

While I do signed poetry prints that are 11×14, that isn’t the size or product that all people want. Some just want a sympathy card, others may want a large canvas print, or maybe a coffee cup. There are limits to what I can customize with the options available so some products just don’t work. Please just ignore them, I know that that format doesn’t work. If you are looking for something specific, or would like to make something specific just let me know. I’m open to just about anything.
