We so want to contain it
A box and maybe a bow
Tuck in all the corners
So the ugliness won’t show

Dress it in pomp and circumstance
And barely show a piece
The ugliness stays hidden
With no chance it will cease

It’s just the way we like it
Kept under control
No one is the wiser
No one knows the toll

But what about the victims
That silence keeps in check
It’s time to let chaos breathe
And the illusion to be wrecked

About the Poem Let Chaos Breathe

The poem Let Chaos Breathe is actually from an article about a Star Trek episode. 59 years ago this week, Robert Hamner and Gene L. Coon gave us the Star Trek Episode “A Taste of Armageddon”. Two planets had been fighting a war with computers for centuries. Mathematical attacks resulted in real casualties. People labeled as being killed were to report to disintegration chambers in accordance with the treaty. Naturally, the Enterprise gets in the middle of their war, and suddenly, the horrors of war become real again.

As a society, we try to keep ugly things contained. No one wants to be exposed to “that”. So it happens in the shadows. People know it’s happening, but no one wants to talk about it, or confront those responsible. Sometimes people need to see what’s really going on for the illusion to be destroyed. And yes, the idea for the poem came from Star Trek, but the show was never about space travel, was it?

Poetry Books

Here are some of the books that are available from Robert Longley. I would recommend the Sacred Poem journals. Reading my earlier books (especially the ones for Military, Police and Firefighter’s families) cover to cover can be overwhelming. The poetry journals are designed to give you one poem per day while you journal about what might be going on in your life. There are specific journals for grief, success, and more.

Inspirational Poetry Products

While I do signed poetry prints that are 11×14, that isn’t the size or product that all people want. Some just want a sympathy card, others may want a large canvas print, or maybe a coffee cup. There are limits to what I can customize with the options available so some products just don’t work. Please just ignore them, I know that that format doesn’t work. If you are looking for something specific, or would like to make something specific just let me know. I’m open to just about anything.
